Bereavement, Grief & Loss
Bereavement, grief, and loss are experiences we will all face at some point in our lives — but that doesn’t make them any easier to navigate. There’s no set timeline for grief, and it can appear unexpectedly, even long after a loss has occurred.
You may be coping with more than one type of loss, and over time, this can affect your wellbeing in ways you might not have anticipated.
As a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I specialise in supporting people through bereavement, grief, and loss. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to adjust to life after losing someone or something important. I offer a safe, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace. I’m here to listen with empathy and without judgement, and to gently support you in finding balance and meaning as you move forward.
When we think of loss, usually the loss of a loved one comes to mind however, there are many different types of loss:
Loss of a loved one
Loss of your future self, hopes and dreams
Loss of a relationship
Loss of a job
Loss of a pet
Loss of identity/sense of self
Loss of pregnancy or infertility

Types Of Grief
There are different types of grief:
Anticipatory Grief – This relates to the feelings of grief that occur before an impending loss, such as the death of a loved one due to a terminal illness, an anticipated job loss or divorce.
Delayed Grief – This occurs when the emotional processing of a loss is significantly delayed by days, weeks or months after the event. This can happen where the loss was unexpected and therefore a shock or when someone puts the needs of others before themselves.
Complicated Grief – This is where persistent and intense symptoms of grief are experienced that impact on daily life, which lasts beyond six months after a loss.
Cumulative Grief – This occurs when a person experiences multiple losses within a short space of time or where a previous loss wasn’t addressed before the next one happens.
